What is "entry of appearance"? I have found this:

before representing a client at court during a civil case, a lawyer must first file an entry of appearance asking the court to enter the lawyer's appearance on behalf of the client.

But after reading it I am none the wiser. What does it mean "to enter the lawyer's appearance on behalf of the client."?

It's a legal term that is not used in everyday English, the lawyer writes to the court giving their details, name, which law firm they work for etc. and requests that they be allowed to represent their client in the case.

I lack the imagination for a witty signature.

Now, it's right. I had read about some English documents, files and ''entry of appearance'' means a kind of request presented in the court, but it is only a request the judge may or may not approve it.
