Semi-annual is far more useful than 'bi-annual' because everybody knows semi = half, but you can never be quite sure about the others. Do they mean bi-annual (two per year) or biennial (every two years).
Requires far too much brainwork to keep those straight.
Even semi-annual isn't great because 'semi' commomly means 'partly' or 'not completely'. So does that mean not quite every year?


And after all, what is wrong with the Anglo-Saxon half-yearly, or twice a year? Whistle

The weather in the area was recording semiannual flucuations
of record highs and rainfalls totals for the early weeks of winter.
