Alcohol's effect on most people, especially when they drink too much of it, is to intoxicate them. If you're not used to drinking, a glass of Champagne may intoxicate you.

Beer, wine, and hard liquor can all intoxicate those who drink them. It's worth noting that in the fifteenth century, intoxicate meant "to poison." A less poisonous way to intoxicate is to "fill with delight or happiness." A gorgeous summer day might intoxicate you, or winning first prize in poetry contest

Your definition is inaccurate. You subscribe to the fact that alcohol is the only agent of "intoxication". I suggest you research "water intoxication". (water poisoning).

In Texas, intoxication manslaughter is a second-degree felony , with
manslaughter being defined as a person who kills another person
without malice, malicious intent, or premeditation.

In my opinion , intoxication manslaughter is a charge that
should be changed to intoxication homicide when the alcohol
content is near or above the legal limit , for the person who
was drunk surely did not do so without effort and reckless
regard for the consequences.
