Today we celebrate again. Here's a video of fireworks and some scenes from last year, with music by Sibelius.

Itsenäisyyspäiväm ilotulitus Finlandian tahdissa

During this year we have also celebrated our good neighbours' 100 years independence. In Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania they don't count those 50 years between 1940 and 1990 as "non-independent".

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Beautiful pictures, JJ and the fireworks were awesome! They were also a reminder that at times one has to fight both for and to maintain, freedom.

And you are right - Independence is a precious thing, and should always be celebrated at every opportunity, for it can be so easily lost.

Presumably, in those Baltic countries "independence" is a state of mind.

To which I can only say, "Bravo!"

Happy Independence Day, JJ!

Co-incidentally, only yesterday I was reading an interesting article about Finland:

Finland to become the first country in the world to get rid of all school subjects
