Hi friends,

Jack has been spreading a rumour about Maggie spending a night with other man. Maggie is angry at him as it is not true. The below is what Maggie talks with her best friend:-

I have feelings and it's really getting me down. My boyfriend told me to keep calm and he'll deal with it, but for Jack to be trying to ruin my relationship, is just low. And if he wants to take it low,
then I'll take it even lower.

Does "low" means "bad" behaviour, and "take it low" means "make it worse"?

Thank you
QP

Yes, to do something low is to be underhand, sneaky, treacherous - breaking the rules of decent or 'honourable' behaviour.
So, if he wants to get nasty, she will retaliate by doing something even nastier.
