Lenin and Stalin wanted to exterminate the priests, well-to-do peasants, rich people, aristocracy and so on. In fact, they exterminated millions of people. Chinese and Cambodian communists have committed equally heinous crimes against humanity. Why never mention this?

Los Angeles, 2029: The machines rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire. Their war to exterminate mankind had raged for decades, but the final battle would not be fought in the future. It would be fought here, in our present. Tonight… (Terminator)

You're looking away "over there".

Oliver Cromwell during the War of the Three Kingdoms - 615,000 Irish people (41% of the total population of the country) and 85,000 Scottish. Some were killed in battles, many were killed at the ends of sieges (soldiers and civilians alike), but most died when their lands, homes and farms were taken over by Cromwell's army and given to English land-owners. The Irish were forced into inhospitable and barren areas where they died of disease (bubonic plague and others) and starvation.
Total dead was about a million, which - considering the population of the four countries at the time - amounted to 'extermination'.

Not wishing to trivialise the genocides mentioned here, but when it comes to this word, for a few generations of British children (now adults) it was the scariest word in the English language - it really does just come down to daleks in the end.

make it talk

Until the modern generation gets to see things the other way round - now you don't know who the real evil is after all....

Why don't you just die?
