What is the difference between "designer goods" and "branded goods"?

Thanks.

"Branded" (or "brand-name") products are normally more expensive than their generic counterparts, while "designer" goods are usually even more costly.

Higher price may imply higher quality, but that is not always the case. Sometimes the cheaper generic products are just as good as the brand-name or designer versions, but many people are willing to spend extra money for the "prestige value" of the famous names.

Branded goods are of a particular, notable brand -- a brand that is considered more elite (or at least, of better quality) than the every-day product.

Designer goods are considered to be more elite than every-day products, but doesn't call out a particular brand. It's more of a category, for purposes of suggesting a better quality product. For example, certain brands of jeans are called designer jeans, only because of their source.

It could be a measure of quality, or simply prestige. While a generic brand of jeans might be of perfectly adequate quality, branded jeans would have more prestige, but designer jeans would have the most prestige. A designer who is currently "hot," in high demand, would have the most cachet.

With designer goods, buyers pay extra for the prestige accompanying the item—jeans, scarves, handbags, watches, or bathroom towels.

Branded and designer products are most costly compared to Generic products. These (branded and designer) products are good in quality but not always.
