Priest Urbain Grandier Burned at the Stake for Witchcraft (1634)

Grandier was a 17th-century French Catholic priest who was accused of bewitching the nuns of the Ursuline convent. Although he was acquitted by an ecclesiastical council, Grandier had published scathing criticisms of Cardinal Richelieu, the chief minister and virtual ruler of France, who arranged to have him re-tried. This proves once again that speaking truth to power has always been a dangerous endeavor punishable by death. Just the propaganda material changes for it would be funny to use the same pretexts today. Or would it?!

It sounds crazy. How can civilized people believe in witchcraft and other shamanistic stuff and torture and burn alive others for allegetly practising it? It was not very long ago, mind you.
