I wonder, how general is General Knowledge

“Knowledge is power. Power to do evil...or power to do good. Power itself is not evil. So knowledge itself is not evil.”
― Veronica Roth, Allegiant

I feel that general knowledge is not so general.

It can be looked at in two ways - and different lexicographers seem to have differing views.

I have always thought about is as "general" = "undifferentiated".
It is knowledge which has not been separated into different subjects.
"The quiz had questions about History, Sport, The Arts, Science and General Knowledge."

It is sometimes used to mean "things known by everyone - knowledge of the general population".
"It's not general knowledge, but Bill suffers from migraines occasionally."

Concerning the quotation - I agree that knowledge is not good or evil, in itself.
I believe that, the more knowledge they have, most people will act for the good.

General knowledge (the "what everyone knows" variety) is often myth, mistaken or misunderstood 'facts' - or lies inserted into the education system deliberately for some reason which helps 'the establishment', but not necessarily 'the people'.
