(1) We cannot help you all the time. It's time for you to do things independently.

(2) We cannot be on your back all the time. ....

(1) is my original example. I am trying to come up with an idiom meaning "help".

Is "on your back" the same as "help"? If not, please give me the right idiom. Thanks a lot.

No,"On one's back" means nagging constantly about one.

You may be looking for "have got your back" or "back you up" if you are looking for an idiom that contains "back" in it.

-have got someone's back: to be prepared or ready to support or vouch for someone;
-back up: to give moral or psychological support or aid or courage

No "to be on your back" means to bother or nag someone constantly.

" Okay I'll do my homework Mum, there's no need to be on my back all the time."

I lack the imagination for a witty signature.

"We can't coddle you all the time."
" We can't prop you up all the time. "
"We can't shore you up all the time."
" We can't be available for you all the time. "
"We can't be checking you all the time. "
"We can't look after you all the time."
" We can't make allowances for you all the time"
"We can't be with you all the time."
"We can't be at your elbow all the time."
" We can't be here for you all the time. "
"You can't fall back on us all the time."
" We can't be your nanny/tutor all the time. "
"We can't stop you making mistakes all the time."
"We can't pull your coals out of the fire all The time."

The more I looked back, the more phrases occurred to me! Obviously it depends on who is saying it to whom (parents, teachers, colleagues, boss) and in what circumstances.
