Let's look at the pattern below.
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, ...
(1) The pattern goes up by twos or two.
(2) The pattern increases by twos or two.
Which one is correct? Thanks.

Which one is correct? Thanks. ___________________________... by two. Hint: Replace two by other numerals e.g.six, eight eleven etc and you will find yourself faltering when you use the plural form.

Which one is correct? Thanks. By two is correct for this wording, but a different wording might change that. For example, if someone said, "count by two's", the pattern would be the same but the plural might be used, and often is. That would also apply for counting by three's, four's, five's, six's, etc.

It's not the pattern that's increasing - it's the numbers or the values. The pattern is constant.
