These traditional Ukrainian Easter eggs derive their name from the verb pysaty—meaning "to write"—since intricate designs are "written" on the eggshells with a wax resist before they are dipped in various dyes. In early 80s in school they checked our hands for dye stains after holidays. We were not especially punished but an unpleasant talk and a dose of public humiliation was administered. I'm sure some teachers had those stains as well.
