Hello,

The caravan went by the northern branch of the famous Silk Road, through Samarkand and the oases of Turfan and Hami, which lie to the north of Tibet, and at last reached Peking. Here the Polos met the great Kublai Khan, who was kind to them and put business in their way.
(from Marco Polo)

What does 'put business in their way' mean?

Thank you
NKM

It's not quite the way we'd usually phrase it, but it means that he "sent some business their way" — that is, he encouraged people to do business with them.
