As a Physician I would say that the first meaning for regurgitate is To Vomit! The definition cited in todays' WOTD is very much a secondary definition that directly draws on the vomiting analogy as it applies to being able to call up knowledge.

In the common usage it used as a verb to define throwing up or vomiting..totally agree with the good doctor.
