Where is helping verb?

Many benefits were/are............

Just because the writer of an article is British doesn't mean that they use English correctly-DragOnspeaker.

To me, it just "feels" wrong to use a "giving" verb rather than a "receiving" verb in the case of religion. I would use "received" or "gained" in place of "bestowed" in your title.

Thanks, palapaguy.

What about the capitalised words? Are they correct?
