Hello respected teachers,

Which is correct?

Doesn't feel right to me.
Percentage isn't a scale. A percentage is a value.

The fact it is a percentage means it is given as a proportion of 100. But it is not a scale.

And if it is a pie chart, it gives the proportion of each. These may be labelled in percentage or fraction. But the pie chart shows the ratio. Any numbers are just labels added to the pie chart.
The same labels could be applied to a bar chart, or even a table. The fact it is a pie chart indicates it displays the ratio (actually measured as parts of total value of 360°!)

I agree - I would say "The pie chart shows the proportion of ... with percentages noted."

The pie chart shows the proportion of people using different modes of transport.

The pie chart shows the proportion of different good bought, with percentages noted.

How would you say the same thing for 'millions of euros', DS?

E.g. The tables show how fair-trade coffee and banana sales changed in five countries in 2004 compared to 1999, noted with ...?

I am looking forward to your answers.

By the way, DS, my browser doesn't show links. I had not noticed the images you have put until I quoted your post.

It would be of great convenience if you could put the image links in between the image tags:
Code:

Thanks.

I am looking forward to your answers.

Probably something like:
The tables show how fair-trade coffee and banana sales changed in five countries in 2004 compared to 1999, showing the actual figures in millions of Euros.

Yes - a slip of the fingers. It should be 'goods' d'oh!

That's interesting on your browser not showing links - Romany has the same 'glitch'. On one of the computers I use, some images don't show up.

I don't know why I didn't use the 'image' code . . .

You made me think about the problem in depth, DS, and that hopefully led to fixing the problem. My ad-blocker was causing the issue. Upon putting TFD in the exception list, all the links appeared, to my surprise. Why don't you give it a shot if have such ad-block programs on your browser?

I am looking forward to your answers.

Hi!
That would be a good idea - but . . .

The problem is actually not with the PC I use, but with the server/internet provider.
It is the computer I use in lunch-breaks and free time in the factory.
There are 'filters' which block 'entertainment', 'adult images' and so on. I can't change them.

I've learned to work around the restrictions, but it makes playing 'picture association games' a bit difficult sometimes.Boo hoo!
