Many people feel that a lot of today's thugs, hoodlums, and hooligans were latchkey kids.

When they got home, their mothers were not there to give them a snack, remind them to do their homework, and to make sure that they were not hanging out with undesirables.

Ideally, a mother should spend her full time being a homemaker to her husband and children.

If she must work, she should try to hire a nanny to care for the children during her absence.

I know it makes me sound horrible, but I just don't want Tommy hanging out with those latchkey kids from down the road. Being a latchkey kid was tough at times, but it taught me the value of self-reliance at an earlier age than most.

Or has to work to provide for her three children aged 10,9 and 4 having become a widow, there was no money for a nanny.

We were latchkey children through circumstance and it did us no harm two of us have honours degrees the other does quite well.

I lack the imagination for a witty signature.
