Nan,

It is so many years ago I can't remember our second anniversay celebrations. But since we had no money for extravagances like restaurants, I expect we celebrated at home or with our new found friends in the apartment.

I do remember my husband gave a me a dozen roses every year with one red for each year we were married. So ten white and two red that year. Since he got to twelve, I get a dozen red every year. I usually get him some little thing I know he wants.

This year we went with friends to a nice steakhouse for a pleasant dinner and celebration afterwards. That is always nice. Or just have a romantic dinner yourselves either at home or out.

It is hugging your partner at least once a day and telling them you appreciate and love them that celebrates your marriage and keeps it strong as well as the yearly anniversay celebrations.

Equality is when you see a person - not a label.

I'm often tempted to say something like that, too, but the plain fact is that the word "anniversary" by itself is usually taken to mean "wedding anniversary". If we mean "birthday anniversary" we just say "birthday".

I'm bothered more by hearing things like "six-month anniversary" or "two-week anniversary", because "anni-" so obviously comes from the Latin word for "year". Unfortunately there don't seem to be any truly suitable words for those "non-annual" observations/celebrations, so just have to grin and bear it.

Congratulations nani_n on your 2nd Anniversary! And a big welcome to TFD. Assuming you are a lady, you can get your hubby a bunch of cotton shirts, and go to town! (I'm assuming you are a female because I have a very dear friend whose name is Nani Nov_____ti and she's from Indonesia...she is a welder by trade!)

Here is a list of gifts for each anniversary that I think is not just in the U.S., but I could be wrong, most folks only think of the Silver 25th Anniversary...i like it...it helps me when I'm buying a gift...I've adhered to this list through my marriage, my parents, and now for my son and daughter- in- law...they enjoy it!
...and don't forget a romantic candlelight dinner.....that would be a good memory!

However, hope123, your advise in your last paragraph is so awesome...my husband of 45 years transitioned 4 yrs ago, in the hospital, of a massive stroke the day before he was to be released (because they thought he was fine)...our last words to each other that previous evening were "I Love You",..as they were every evening....thanks again hope123,
