Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.

It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live.

If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.

When you hold onto a script that doesn't serve you, you leave no space to write a new one that does.

If your dreams don't scare you, they are not big enough.

Yeah. It isn't difficult to kill fear. It is difficult to find its heart, head and throat... Give him the chair!

There are other ways of overcoming fear. When you are bored of life, dangers look exciting rather than frightening.

True.
Hmmm ...: the 'Gogul' has sent me to an article from 'De Standaard' announcing "a coin has been found in Flanders, Belgium, Europe, picturing emperor Marcus Aurelius. The coin was made between December 167 and December 168. A volunteer found the coin during searches near 'Roeselaarseweg, Torhout' (maps). The coin must have been a gift for the deceased who were burnt on a fire stake, which was a local habit." The story of life goes on, doesn't it?

Context from: Lord Jim By Joseph Conrad

Chapter XXXIII

"Her immobility before me was clearly expectant, and my part was to speak for my brother from the realm of forgetful shades. I was deeply moved at my responsibility and at her distress. I would have given anything for the power to soothe her frail soul, tormenting itself in its invincible ignorance like a small bird beating about the cruel wires of a cage. Nothing easier than to say, Have no fear! Nothing more difficult. How does one kill fear, I wonder? How do you shoot a spectre through the heart, slash off its spectral head, take it by its spectral throat? It is an enterprise you rush into while you dream, and are glad to make your escape with wet hair and every limb shaking. The bullet is not run, the blade not forged, the man not born; even the winged words of truth drop at your feet like lumps of lead. You require for such a desperate encounter an enchanted and poisoned shaft dipped in a lie too subtle to be found on earth. An enterprise for a dream, my masters!

Joseph Conrad (1857-1924)

Most rhetorical questions are suspect of leading, more often than not suggesting a negative answer.
This quotation was put to us in October, 2012. Here was my answer:

One doesn't, and probably shouldn't try to kill fear. One can only argue with it,
master it with the rational part of the same mind that conceived the specter.
Then remember it as it stood there exposed, for the next time one must argue with it.

Today, I would add: Our worst fears are born, next borne, and fall, within the bounds of reason.
