Hey guys.

I have been studying Raising and Controlling, but it seems quite hard to understand its function and uses.
I would like any of you to analyze this explanation and tell me wheter I got it correctly or not:

Subject-control verbs are verbs that take a to-infinitive phrase as its complement and its subject is the same who performed the main action, example:

The man tried [to run faster]

In the sentence above, the subject of the to-infinitive phrase is the same who performed the action of trying (The man).

Is it correct?

I am the way, and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me. - John 14:6

My life-long experience as a native user of English tells me that your analysis of the example is certainly correct.

Having never heard of "Raising and Controlling", I can only say that the example (and your parsing of it) does conform to the definition you've quoted.

(I wonder why grammarians/linguists/experts keep inventing new complications!)

I'm the same as NKM here - I've never heard of "Raising and Controlling" (nor "subject-control verbs").

However your understanding seems to be right.

"The man" is the subject of the verb 'try'
"The man" is also the implied subject of the action "run".
