If we discharge a patient to Bilberry which is a temporary resident then we need to give them 28 days supply of medicines.

Which one is correct?

28 day supply in bottles and boxes

28 days supply in bottles and boxes

28 day supplies in bottles and boxes

when do we use "supplies"?

thanks

They have a supply of medicine.

Supplies are plural, of different things, so all you need is the singular.

You can use two ways to say this, but you can't mix them together (which you often see done, but that is wrong).

Either
it is a possessive
it is as if you are saying "it is a supply of 28 days"
so it is plural possessive, with an apostrophe after the s. And because it is a possessive, it replaces the article:
...with 28 days' supply of medicine

Or

it is a hyphenated adjective, to show that "28-day" is linked together to form before it is attached to the noun. Because 'day' is part of an adjective, it is not plural:
....with a 28-day supply of medicine

The second way of saying it is preferable, because it is clearer to everyone.

You will see this written wrongly in many instances, such as 'a 28-days supply'. But that is wrong, so don't be tempted to copy it! Whistle

As Thar says: "28 days' supply" or "a 28-day supply". Either way, "supply" remains singular.
