"Help me clean up the car."
"Help me clean the car."

I asking my son to wash the car together.

Do they sound natural?

Both phrases sound natural. "Clean up" suggests a particular situation while using clean is more general.

As Mr. Henderson says, they're natural enough, but neither "cleaning" nor "cleaning up" is the same as "washing".

"Washing" means using water, perhaps with some kind of detergent, to clean the outside of the car.

"Cleaning" is probably just a matter of clearing away the normal accumulation of dirt and minor debris, mainly from the inside of the car.

"Clean up" is more likely to imply a thorough cleaning of either the inside or the outside of the car, or maybe both, so as to make it look better. It might be what you do if you're trying to sell the car.

Good Explanation, NKM.

Deliberate practice of one hour is worth ten hours of normal practice.
