Hello!

This is from Cam'ron's song "Hey Ma":

Well good - cause we gon' get high tonight
Got drops (got coupes) got trucks (got jeeps)
All right - cause we gon' take a ride tonight

What are "drops" in this context? Looks like it refers to some sort of vehicles, perhaps pick-ups, no?

What a language Angel
I've just read the whole thing through..

But still it would be interesting to know if there is a more or less common meaning for "drop" that fits this context.

Na I ain't from round here, but I's guessing it means low-riders. - Drop suspension.

The vehicular equivalent of having your trousers [pants] hanging halfway down your butt.
Yes, guys, you do look like idiots!

But I could be wrong.
I'm not American, a diesel-head, a rapper, or someone who appreciates this culture, as you may be able to tell from my comments. Whistle

I mean, the first bump you run over...d'oh!

Do you just scrape off metal, or are you left hanging there like a stranded whale?

I should imagine on most cars, you would lose your exhaust and/or silencer.
But then, that would just make the car sound louder and more exciting anyway!

Angel

I see, thank you very much!

Yeah, I know this, some guys do this thing with their cars here, too. I am not sure it is even related to the rap culture here, I think it's just seen as being "cool" by some... I've always wondered, too, how the guys are riding like that, especially given the fact that generally speaking roads in Russia are worse than they are in the US and Europe, and especially beyond big cities. So with this "drop" you certainly can't go wherever roads could otherwise lead you, you can only "ride" withing some limited areas... Anyway, that's their choice.

I am really greatful for your advice. Thank you, everybody who replied in this thread. I couldn't find this trandslation in any dictionary.

urbandictionary.com defines "drop" as "An expensive car/convertible. (see whip)" in its best rated definition.
Number 9 states "The word drop can mean a lowerd [sic] car. Low rider."

I know UD is not the most reliable source, but is is quite useful when trying to understand the "gangsta" jargon.
