Holy Saturday

The Saturday before Easter Sunday is the last day of Holy Week and brings the season of Lent to a close. Many churches, especially those of the Anglican Communion, still hold large baptismal services on Holy Saturday. It is also known as the Vigil of Easter in reference to the fact that Jesus' followers spent this day, after his crucifixion on Good Friday, waiting. Holy Saturday: A Huge Silence

Fourteenth Station, Jesus Lying in the Tomb, St. George the Martyr Church, Newbury, UK

If we were not so single-minded
about keeping our lives moving,
and for once could do nothing,
perhaps a huge silence
might interrupt this sadness
of never understanding ourselves
and of threatening ourselves with death.
Perhaps the earth can teach us
as when everything seems dead
and later proves to be alive.

Pablo Neruda, from“Keeping Quiet”

Si no pudimos ser unánimes
moviendo tanto nuestras vidas,
tal vez no hacer nada una vez,
tal vez un gran silencio pueda
interrumpir esta tristeza,
este no entendernos jamás
y amenazarnos con la muerte,
tal vez la tierra nos enseñe
cuando todo parece muerto
y luego todo estaba vivo.

De "Callarse" por Pablo Neruda
