Geological word of the day Turbidity currents, new: And old: Turbidites- A 20" thick bed with ripup clasts. Aberath, Wales Nobody realised they existed until something cut the transatlantic phone cables. By the timing of the failure of successive cables, they worked out how far and fast this underwater landslide must have gone, and how violent it must have been. Very annoying for the cable company. Very enlightening for geologists !

A related geological word Greywacke, a type of sandstone rock with angular quartz , feldspar and lithic fragments that are poorly sorted, in a clay matrix. These are normally formed by Turbity flows. https://wwwf.imperial.ac.uk/earthscienceandengineering/rocklibrary/viewrecord.php?cID=5494
I lack the imagination for a witty signature.
