I think they should stop printing all of them. It just encourages religious zealots.

I find this comforting:

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want

I want a lot. My mother told me one time that when you hit about 40 you quit with all the wanting. NOT SO. d'oh!

I've always been fascinated by this one; "How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock," (Psalm 137:9).

No Benjamin Spock, of course, in those days but 'spare the rod spoil the child' is a bit tame by comparison.

They couldn't even invent shorts. Rule our spiritual life? Don't think so. They wore blankets in hot weather.

"There are intervals between each day's play, a ten-minute interval between innings, and lunch, tea and drinks intervals. The timing and length of the intervals must be agreed before the match begins. There are also provisions for moving the intervals and interval lengths in certain situations, most notably the provision that if nine wickets are down, the tea interval is delayed to the earlier of the fall of the next wicket and 30 minutes elapsing."

Oh, pedro, thank you so much for that wonderful Psalm quote, I almost forgot it existed... it was so comforting. Angel

dlux3, "shorts" LOL, that reminds me of something. I was visiting a Greek Orthodox chapelette in Rafina when I was approached by some guard. He shouted, "No shoats, no shoats." Well, I didn't know what "shoats" meant so I kept walking around. He kept following me and shouting, and I finally left. Another tourist told me that shorts weren't allowed. Oh, my... my bare tan legs somehow defiled the church. d'oh!

I always thought there was something wrong with people who wore long rolled diapers on their heads, and long heavy robes when the temperature was 130 degrees in the shade. d'oh!

Here's a treat for everyone: The Gospel of Thomas and The Gospel of the Infancy of Jesus Christ. It was discovered in 1945 at Nag Hammadi, Egypt and carbon dated to be written around 200 AD. It's a treasure trove of Jesus as a child, killing other children over simple disagreements, such as pond stomping, and shoulder brushing. Incredible! If you can get a hold of a copy, do so. Pray

My favorite bible quote comes from George Orwell

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not money, I am become as a sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not money, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not money, it profiteth me nothing. Money suffereth long, and is kind; money envieth not; money vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things...And now abideth faith, hope, money, these three; but the greatest of these is money." - I Corinthians xiii - From Keep the Aspidistra Flying

Note: This is the King James Version I believe.

Wer,

You *(and I mean the general 'you')* never wear shorts to a Greek Orthodox church. I remember when the Arch-Bischop was visiting and there were guests in the front row and a woman was wearing pants, the A/Bishop came down the steps of the pulpit and scolded her in church in front of everyone! d'oh! .....they were just visitors, I felt so badly for her as The A/Bishop was rude and wrong. Shame on you

A few years back I stayed in Pacific Grove for Christmas, and I drove by a Catholic Church and asked someone standing in the parking lot if I could wear a pair of velvet pants to Christmas Eve Mass.........for a second she looked at me as though I had green hair and then she kindly smiled and said, "of course you can." I was relieved and Mass was quite different and quite lovely. I have never worn pants to Mass at an Orthodox Church. Anxious

Regarding the Jesus killing....I have read about this within the last five years or so. I need to hunt around to find the name of the book and the female author. He allegedly did it to a boy/playmate? when they were both small.

I found this. <<<<<< not crazy about some of the avatars on this site. Sick

And, I do believe I did read the book after watching the programme on the, History Channel. Think

peace out. >^,,^<

I enjoy the works of Aesop's Fables.

The Fox and the Crow

A Fox once saw a Crow fly off with a piece of cheese in its beak and settle on a branch of a tree. "That's for me, as I am a Fox," said Master Reynard, and he walked up to the foot of the tree. "Good-day, Mistress Crow," he cried. "How well you are looking to-day: how glossy your feathers; how bright your eye. I feel sure your voice must surpass that of other birds, just as your figure does; let me hear but one song from you that I may greet you as the Queen of Birds." The Crow lifted up her head and began to caw her best, but the moment she opened her mouth the piece of cheese fell to the ground, only to be snapped up by Master Fox. "That will do," said he. "That was all I wanted. In exchange for your cheese I will give you a piece of advice for the future ."Do not trust flatterers."

The Fox and the Grapes

One hot summer's day a Fox was strolling through an orchard till he came to a bunch of Grapes just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch. "Just the thing to quench my thirst," quoth he. Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success. Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel, but at last had to give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: "I am sure they are sour."

It is easy to despise what you cannot get.

Buddha] repeatedly told his disciples:

"Two things only, my disciples, do I teach -- misery and the cessation of misery."

Human existence is full of misery and pain. Our immediate duty, therefore, is to get rid of this misery and pain.

If instead we bother about barren metaphysical speculations, we behave like
that foolish man whose heart is pierced by a poisonous arrow and who, instead of taking it out whiles away his time on idle speculation about the origin, the size, the metal, the maker and the shooter of the arrow.

There are two actions the victim can take. Either way, the victim is scrooed (sp intentional), blued, and tattooed.
1. If the victim leaves the poisonous arrow in his heart he will die from the trauma and poison.
2. If the victim takes the poisonous arrow out of his heart he will bleed to death.

In either case, philosophical contemplation is futile.

When I read this it really made me stop and think. Oh NO! This reads so true. Then I thought of one of my favorite scriptures and here it is . . .

16And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

17And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

18And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

19And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

20But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

21So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

22And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

23The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

So, you see, the best commentary on the Bible is the Bible.

Exodus 21 - 21:15 "And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shell be surely put to death." Sounds like there should be alot of children put to death to me. Can you imagine if people really went verbatim on this stuff? There is also a verse that says it's ok to sell your daughter into slavery and men having long hair is a descrace.

It's amazing what people will do when they feel they are entitled.

They do stitches now?

You can apply all the pressure you want on the outside of the chest wall, but how do you prevent or stabilize a tamponade? You'll still bleed to death before you can make a reservation on a gurney under a spotlight in sterile conditions.

Ephesians 1:3 is my favourite verse - "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ Jesus". This portion of scripture states clearly the relationshiop between God and Jesus and it assures all believers that we are richly blessed with all the spiritual power of Christ. It also states clearly who God has blessed. God has blessed 'us in the heavenly realms', meaning those who have entered the Kingdom of heaven by accepting Christ Jesus as saviour and Lord. This verse from St Paul's letter to the Ephesian Church scotches the myth that all religions are the same - just different paths to God. There are no blessings for those outside the Kingdom of Heaven and there is no promise that everyone - no matter how evil - will be saved at the end of time. Only those 'in Christ' have Christ's blessings and the promise of salvation.

This isn't really my favorite Bible verse ( I don't see how you could have a favorite), but one I have been thinking about is Matthew 24:37-39

"37 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man."

It seems that in almost every segment of societies and cultures people are concerned with the end of the world. We just had the prediction from one fellow that May 21st was the day and most everyone has heard of the Mayan predictions for 12-20-2012. One thing for certain, we are one day closer than we were yesterday to that end, whenever it may be. And it doesn't matter if we are talking about the world's end or our inevitable march toward D Day. Noah preached repentance until God indicated that the time of end is now. Therefore, God's reliable planning guide (His Word) indicates that NOW is the time to prepare. II Corinthians 6:2b "…Behold now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation".

I've always thought this a very beautiful bit of Biblical poetry (depending on which translation one uses....)

I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls. My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat. My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
