Apparently you have not heard of the execution/assassination of Alexander Litvinenko by the Russian state.

That was murder.Lawful execution has been indefinitely suspended in Russia. Nobody has been lawfully executed there for 20 years.

It's my apprehension that Elvandil's use of the term closeted homophobe was meant to imply that I'm a closeted homosexual, however if that's been misconstrued, I believe it is Elvandil's place to clarify... not yours. Besides, that term has already been thoroughly explained. It's unfortunate that you lack proficient reading skills... practice makes perfect.

Oh, and thank you for the stats and wiki link, Tunaafi... I too know how to search the Internet. Sadly, your point is entirely irrelevant. I merely stated an opinion and don't really care who does or does not agree.

I have been reading the to'ing and fro'ing of this debate and could it be that gay kissing in public arouses erogenous feeling with the voyeur that he/she would

rather stay hidden?

Yes, it could be said. Some of the most vocal anti-LGBTQ people in US Congress have been discovered to be closet homosexual, so it could also be said that the anti-LGBTQ rhetoric is purely a cover for these closet homosexuals.

I think you make excellent points, Tovarish and proqpen. It reminds me of the many Evangelical preachers (Jim Baker, Marvin Gorman, Jimmy Swaggart, etc) who have been very vocal and self-righteous over the years in railing against the evils of sin until they get caught "sinning".

Maybe this is just the beginning!

I agree with Tovarish... you make a good point, Progpen. Of course, gay politicians are closeted for good reason... so they won't lose the election. Just like movie stars who once had to hide their homosexuality for the sake of their careers. But, celebrities and politicians are becoming more open now as it becomes more acceptable.

Pekka Haavisto was the first openly homosexual candidate to make it to the second round of presidential elections in Finland (2012).

Indeed, the previous prime minister in Belgium, Elio Di Rupo, was openly gay, but got elected nonetheless.

Hmm... I wonderrrr... could it also be that gay kissing in public simply repulses some people? Could that be a remote possibility?

I agree with Tovarish. If something repulses, then the person being repulsed will just turn away and not dwell on it and stew in their own juices until they explode with moral indignation all over social media.

While I tend to feel that homosexuals should be allowed to do that which heterosexual couples are allowed to do, I do not think that Marco's point should be immediately dismissed for the following reason:

Ultimately what is or is not acceptable in society (whether done in public or in private) is something for society to decide and, since society is made up of people, there will be at least some arbitrariness involved in the decision making.

For example, screwing in public is not permitted and far more people would agree with that prohibition even though it is just as arbitrary.

I am tempted to just end this post by suggesting that society should decide whether kissing in public is permitted at all and then let everyone do it, but it may not be that simple.

Even if we all accept that kissing in public is allowed, do we really want anyone and everyone to be allowed to do it? Do we want the law to delve into types of kisses? I suspect that even the most liberal person will find that he/she will draw a line somewhere.

Yes, pretty much. So long as other laws are respected (consent, no public nudity etc.), I see no reason to deny some members of the public their rights.

What's the alternative? We'd deny someone a basic right to express their love, just because some of us get a little uncomfortable?

Lotje, when your tiny monarchy is completely overrun by Islam come back and let us know how that's working out for you. I don't think they'll appreciate you swapping spit with Conchita Wurst... Whistle

When that happens, I'm sure they'll send you an invite to watch and enjoy the public lashings. Funny how you don't find those repulsive.

You don't watch the news much do you, Prog? If so you'd know about the Islamic refugee situation in Belgium. This is old news but hey, at least you learned something today. Getting your news from the forums on TDF doesn't seem very efficient though. If you're opposed to the MSM try surfing the Internet a little. You'd be surprised how much there is to learn.

So you are saying gays kissing is somehow tourist propaganda for Islamic refugees?

No, I'm saying your tiny monarchy is being overrun by Islam and may eventually become a theocracy. Did I mention anything about tourism? I don't think so. Anyway, if you still fail to grasp what I'm saying just ask and I'll continue trying to explain it to you.

By the way, Lotje, when they do take over you won't have to worry about a public lashing... it'll be straight to the stoning pits for you, boy... capital punishment. You may want to consider hopping on your bicycle and pedaling to safer ground. Brussels could soon become the new Bangladesh. Think

It could be worth responding to Progpen properly then, rather than purposefully misunderstanding in an attempt to ridicule the poster.

You sound so eager. I reiterate my earlier point: public displays of affection repulse you, but apparently not physically harmful punishment.

That, minus the bicycle, is exactly what the refugees are doing. Not invading, nor stoning people of the LGTBQ community.

So much vitriol and bile and then you go and pay me the biggest compliment you ever could have. The best Airmen and women that I ever worked with had to hide who they were just to serve our country. They excelled at their jobs, made rank and became great and respected leaders. Then I became a civilian and I worked with people who still had to hide, but still excelled and succeeded in the private sector as coworkers, managers and entrepreneurs. They have also been the most loving, responsible and effective parents of anyone I know.

So, even though I'm not gay, I do thank you from the bottom of my heart for calling me gay.
