We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is in it and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot stove lid. She will never sit on a hot stove lid again and that is well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one anymore.

Now, if only the cat would extend the wisdom of that experience to sitting down on the fan...
Cats or people, only learn one thing at a time.

Quotation from :Following the Equator
Chapter 11

"We should be careful to get out of an experience only the wisdom that is
in it--and stop there; lest we be like the cat that sits down on a hot
stove-lid. She will never sit down on a hot stove-lid again--and that is
well; but also she will never sit down on a cold one any more."
-Pudd'nhead Wilson's New Calendar.

Here. Twain quoted his character Pudd'nhead Wilson, from his own novel, "Pudd'nhead Wilson's New Calendar".
