There's a thread debating which genre of music has the best lyrics, and there's a thread about favorite movie quotes, so I'm going out on a limb, here. What are your favorite song lyrics, from any genre? My favorites all come from songs by my all-time favorite band, Death Cab for Cutie. (These are all copied and pasted directly from the lyrics page of their discography.) "This is fact not fiction For the first time in years all the girls in every girlie magazine Can't make me feel any less alone I'm reaching for the phone To call at 7:03 [and] on your machine I slur a plea for you to come home But I know it's too late I should have given you a reason to stay..." --from 'A Lack of Color' (Transatlanticism) "Cath, she stands with a well intentioned-man But she can’t relax with his hand on the small of her back..." --from 'Cath...' (Narrow Stairs) "How I wish you could see the potential of you and me It’s like a book elegently bound but in a language that you can’t read just yet..." --from 'I Will Possess Your Heart' (Narrow Stairs) Risa"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." -- Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen

One of my all-time faves would be the Manic Street Preachers' fabulous 1998 track 'The Everlasting,' from their famed album 'This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours.' I kinda relish anything and everything with an anti-establishment flavour. Anyways, here are the lyrics: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/m/manic+street+preachers/the+everlasting_20087729.html The gap that grows between our lives The gap our parents never had Stop those thoughts control your mind Replace the things that you despise Oh youre old I hear you say It doesnt mean that I dont care I dont believe in it anymore Pathetic acts for a worthless cause In the beginning when we were winning When our smiles were genuine In the beginning when we were winning When our smiles were genuine But now unforgiven the everlasting Everlasting The world is full of refugees Theyre just like you and just like me But as people we have a choice To end the void with all its force So dont forget or dont pretend Its all the same now in the end It was set in a different life Destroys my days and haunts my nights? In the beginning when we were winning When our smiles were genuine In the beginning when we were winning When our smiles were genuine But now unforgiving the everlasting Everlasting Now unforgiving, the everlasting Everlasting Of all the varieties of virtues, liberalism is the most beloved. - Aristotle

To everything (turn, turn, turn) There is a season (turn, turn, turn) And a time for every purpose, under heaven
A time to be born, a time to die A time to plant, a time to reap A time to kill, a time to heal A time to laugh, a time to weep
To everything (turn, turn, turn) There is a season (turn, turn, turn) And a time for every purpose, under heaven
A time to build up,a time to break down A time to dance, a time to mourn A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together
To everything (turn, turn, turn) There is a season (turn, turn, turn) And a time for every purpose, under heaven
A time of love, a time of hate A time of war, a time of peace A time you may embrace, a time to refrain from embracing
To everything (turn, turn, turn) There is a season (turn, turn, turn) And a time for every purpose, under heaven
A time to gain, a time to lose A time to rend, a time to sew A time to love, a time to hate A time for peace, I swear its not too late

"When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comes to me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. And in my hour of darkness She is standing right in front of me Speaking words of wisdom, let it be. Let it be, let it be. Let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
And when the broken hearted people Living in the world agree, There will be an answer, let it be. For though they may be parted there is Still a chance that they will see There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. Let it be, let it be. Yeah, There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. Let it be, let it be. Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. Let it be, let it be. There will be an answer, let it be."

"I Don't Wanna Go To Work" by the Happening Thang, about 1990
I don't wanna go to work I don't care about my pay And it don't matter if I starve I'd rather die than work today

Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong; They are weak, but He is strong.
Refrain
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me! This I know, As He loved so long ago, Taking children on His knee, Saying, “Let them come to Me.”
Refrain
Jesus loves me still today, Walking with me on my way, Wanting as a friend to give Light and love to all who live.
Refrain
Jesus loves me! He who died Heaven’s gate to open wide; He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in.
Refrain
Jesus loves me! He will stay Close beside me all the way; Thou hast bled and died for me, I will henceforth live for Thee.
Refrain

That ("A Lack of Color") is a good one. I used to be obsessed with DCFC in high school and my early years in college. I kind of strayed after that most recent album that didn't really strike my fancy much. I used to get this song stuck in my head all the time, but it's not as though I minded. From the second most recent album, the "I'll Follow You into the Dark" song was one of the few that followed me everywhere I went, lyric-wise. Now I really want to find my old cds, which I'm sure will be nearly impossible with my bad habit of throwing cds in every place except findable ones. I also find the lyrics to "Such Great Heights" by Ben's side band, The Postal Service, quite lyrically captivating.

Without picking a genre, the "best song lyrics" seems an impossible call to me. But for lyrics that are meaningful, rhythmic, and musical - with or without music - try these from "Bloodletting" by Concrete Blonde:
"Days and days"
The dirty leaves are sailing on a hot wind ocean And the summer comes and the summer goes and always has & will And something somewhere that you said Goes ricochet all through my head And flashing like a neon sign, the time stands still
Hours of forever. Coming all together At the crossroads of a minute And you and me were in it And I never saw it coming, never saw it fade away. Today, today, today .... days and days Days and days .... Days and days .... Days and Days!
And still the whining of the wheels Sounds closest to the way I feel And winter comes, and winter goes and always has & will Another hour, another day, Another year you pissed away. Remember walking in the rain? I'm walking there still.
Hours of forever. Coming all together At the crossroads of a minute And you and me were in it And I never saw it coming, never saw it fade away. Today, today, today .... days and days Days and days .... Days and days .... Days and days!
Like every heart to the beat before And every wave to kiss a shore I'm not the first, I'm not the last . . . And soon to be your past But every morning, when the light Comes creeping in around my eyes Another future falls behind - The one I had in mind.
Hours of forever. Coming all together At the crossroads of a minute And you and me were in it And I never saw it coming, never saw it fade away. Today, today, today .... days and days Days and days .... Days and days .... Days and Days!

I Belong To You (Eros Ramazzotti feat. Anastacia)
EROS - Adesso no, non voglio più difendermi, supererò dentro di me gli ostacoli… i miei momenti più difficili, per te. ANASTACIA – There is no reason, there’s no rhyme: it’s crystal clear. I hear your voice and all the darkness disappears. Every time I look into your eyes you make me love you EROS – Questo inverno finirà ANASTACIA – And I do truly love you EROS – Fuori e dentro me ANASTACIA – How you maybe love you EROS – con le sue difficoltà ANASTACIA – And I do truly love you
TOGETHER – I belong to you, you belong to me forever
ANASTACIA – Want you, baby I want you and I thought that you should know that I believe. You’re the wind that’s underneath my wings, I belong to you, you belong to me. EROS – Ho camminato su pensieri ripidi ANASTACIA – You are my fantasy EROS – per solitudini e deserti aridi ANASTACIA – You are my gentle breeze EROS – al ritmo della tua passione ora io vivrò ANASTACIA – and I’ll never let you go EROS – l’amore attraverserò ANASTACIA – you’are the piece that makes me whole EROS – le onde dei suoi attimi ANASTACIA – I can feel you in my soul EROS – profondi come oceani
EROS - Vincerò per te le paure che io sento, quanto bruciano dentro le parole che non ho più detto, sai… ANASTACIA – Want you, baby I want you and I thought that you should know that I believe. EROS - Lampi nel silenzio siamo noi ANASTACIA - I belong to you, you belong to me, you’re the wind that’s underneath my wings, I belong to you, you belong to me. EROS - Adesso io ti sento ANASTACIA – I will belong forever EROS - To ANASTACIA - you

She may be the face I can't forget a trace of pleasure or regret may be my treasure or the price I have to pay She may be the song that summer sings may be the chill that autumn brings may be a hundred different things within the measure of a day.
She may be the beauty or the beast may be the famine or the feast may turn each day into a heaven or a hell She may be the mirror of my dreams a smile reflected in a stream She may not be what she may seem inside her shell She who always seems so happy in a crowd whose eyes can be so private and so proud no one's allowed to see them when they cry She may be the love that cannot hope to last may come to me from shadows of the past that I'll remember till the day I die
She may be the reason I survive the why and wherefore I'm alive the one I'll care for through the rough and ready years Me I'll take her laughter and her tears and make them all my souvenirs for where she goes I've got to be The meaning of my life is she, she, she

The Mundahs (not sure if they are even still together) excerpt from Good Day "Traffic backed up sideway And the road leads to the sea There's a palm tree congregation And they're worshiping the breeze It's the sun's last chance to blind me As it slips into the sea Never gonna find me it's a good day..." Most David Gray lyrics are terrific. White Ladder CD in particular "Sail Away", "Babylon", "Please, Forgive Me" listen here http://www.last.fm/music/David+Gray Here's one from a group you won't know (yes, it's me-shameless I know) "Heaven's Lake" The people come to drink & dine The fare the Muse's set Where converstions heady wine May soothe the soul's regret Of senses known and laid aside Where the soul to flesh unites What deeper vision could we gain Could ego stand the sight? Where time and mind and will are one Asingle total view With 3D minds a web we've spun To tangle what we knew Heaven's Lake Heaven's Lake Drifting in the gentle wake... Action is the core of life We live for leassons learned Senses are the clumsy knife That pares the core we've spurned If we could glimpse the (w)hole inside What insight we could gain! But sanity demands it hide To lock us in this mortal plane Oh to sleep, perchance to dream And never shall we wake Until the current of life's stream Takes us down to.. Heavens Lake Heaven's Lake Drifting in the gentle wake I pray the Lord My soul to take With all my friends To heaven lake (copyrighted, written & recorded by Alex Buttny with Deborah Hennesy) Inspired by Seth Speaks by Jane Roberts and Illusion's by Richard Bach Streets of Gold Runnin down the streets of gold American dream has run cold Facts of life can now be told That all the promise is on hold Images on the tv screen The messages are white and clean Corporate cuts left lean and mean Those left behing are suffering. Black crime & white girls missing Disastrous war and two guys kissing Sound bites and candidates dissing Truth & justice is what's missing Lawyers in court filing suit Judicial courruption just pollutes The backroom deals divide the loot The unarmed always lose disputes Celebrity has a personal disease Prisoner of war on their knees Evangalist says "money, please' Taxpayers in the squeeze Excuse me now while I sneeze I can't take any more sleaze! (copyrighted, written & recorded by The Napoleans, lyrics by Geno Masella) inspired by any newspaper or TV news show She's got A Way With Murder Like a bird help by the viper's eye Or a mother drawn to her baby's cry I'm help in place ny chains of mind Bound and gagged my eye's gone blind Like the termite in the tree once proud I'm the rotten apple in the crowd Trapped inside the danger zone Sysiphus pushing passion's stone Guess I knew it from the day we met Had to have that woman yet Guess I never saw the net Ohh Now I see her other side Why so many failed who tried I've shed tears that never dried Ohh (man sings) (woman sings simultaneously) Shes' got a way with murder (repeat x3) (Now you've got what you had wanted, Now you've got what you deserved She's got a way with murder, murder murder love will never be the same again. Repeat x2) I'm the genie in the lamp My power bridled, reined in, damp The fragrant garden gone to seed My vine's been choked by ruthless weeds Could I break free and shed these chains? And ride for the future's lonely plains Or hurdle here at freedom's cost With no blame had for battles lost? Now I see my other side Why so many like me cried Her judgments made and I've been tried Ohh Now I know my choice is made I signed in blood, my will's been stayed She's now the hand that wields my blade Ohh She's got a way with murder etc (copywrited, written & recorded by Alex Buttny & Deborah Hennesy) inspired by being more in love with someone than they were with me.

Mine's indeed "Eyes of Christ" by Angra Eyes of Christ[Music: Kiko Loureiro, Rafael Bittencourt, Edu Falaschi, Aquiles Priester] [Lyrics: Rafael Bittencourt] Demian poor child was raised on the gutter Digs in trashcans to kill the hunger When your mouth is so full of promise All I see is one empty hand The world may turn but some things may never change! If you're really angry at someone, belting this in a car will get emotions out (a little morbid, sorry):
Fall Out Boy - Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to do Today
Light that smoke, yeah, one for giving up on me And one just cause they’ll kill you sooner than my expectations To my favorite liar, to my favorite scar (to my favorite scar): “I could have died with you” I hope you choke on those words, that kiss, that bottle - I confess (So bury me in memory) Now ash yourself, yeah, out on the insides, said I loved you but I lied
Let’s play this game called “when you catch fire” I wouldn’t piss to put you out Stop burning bridges and drive off of them So I can forget about you
So bury me in memory His smile’s your rope So wrap it tight around your throat
On the drive home You joke about the kid you used to see And his jealousy Breaking hearts has never looked so cool As when you wrap your car around a tree Your makeup looks so great next to his teeth (his teeth)
So bury me in memory His smile’s your rope So wrap it tight around your throat
So bury me in memory around your throat

Pressed Rat and Warthog have closed down their shop, They didn't want to - 'twas all they had got. Selling atonal apples, amplified heat, And Pressed Rat's collection of dog legs and feet.
Sadly they left, telling no one goodbye. Pressed Rat wore red jodhpurs - Warthog a striped tie. Between them, they carried a three-legged sack, Went straight round the corner and never came back.
Pressed Rat and Warthog have closed down their shop. The bad captain madman had told them to stop Selling atonal apples, amplified heat, And pressed rat's collection of dog legs and feet.
The bad captain madman had ordered their fate. He laughed and stomped off with a nautical gate. The gate turned into a deroga tree And his pegleg got woodworm and broke into three.
Pressed Rat and Warthog have closed down their shop, They didn't want to - 'twas all they had got. Selling atonal apples, amplified heat, And Pressed Rat's collection of dog legs and feet.

What a wonderful world... I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself what a wonderful world. The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do They're really saying I love you. I hear babies cry, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll never know. And I think to myself what a wonderful world Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Chameleons Second Skin
One cold damp evening the world stood still I watched as I help my breath A silhouette I thought I knew came through Someone spoke to me Whispered in my ear This fantasy's for you Fantasies are 'in' this year.
My whole life flashed before my eyes I thought, what they say is true I shed my skin and my disguise And cold, numb and naked I Emerge from my cocoon A half remembered tune Played softly in my head He said.
He turned, smiling, and said,
I realize a miracle is due I dedicate this melody to you But is this the stuff dreams are made of If this is the stuff dreams are made of No wonder it feels like I'm floating on air Everywhere, it feels like I'm everywhere
Like when you fail to make the connection You know how vital it is Or when something slips through your fingers You know how precious it is And you reach the point when you know it's only your Second skin It's only your second skin.

In terms of lyrics in popular music, in my opinion, Bob Dylan is unrivaled. I would have a tough time picking a particular song that I would say is his best work, but I've always been fond of the lyrics to "It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)."
Darkness at the break of noon Shadows even the silver spoon The handmade blade, the child's balloon Eclipses both the sun and moon To understand you know too soon There is no sense in trying.
Pointed threats, they bluff with scorn Suicide remarks are torn From the fool's gold mouthpiece The hollow horn plays wasted words Proves to warn That he not busy being born Is busy dying.
Temptation's page flies out the door You follow, find yourself at war Watch waterfalls of pity roar You feel to moan but unlike before You discover That you'd just be One more person crying.
So don't fear if you hear A foreign sound to your ear It's alright, Ma, I'm only sighing.
As some warn victory, some downfall Private reasons great or small Can be seen in the eyes of those that call To make all that should be killed to crawl While others say don't hate nothing at all Except hatred.
Disillusioned words like bullets bark As human gods aim for their mark Made everything from toy guns that spark To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark It's easy to see without looking too far That not much Is really sacred.
While preachers preach of evil fates Teachers teach that knowledge waits Can lead to hundred-dollar plates Goodness hides behind its gates But even the president of the United States Sometimes must have To stand naked.
An' though the rules of the road have been lodged It's only people's games that you got to dodge And it's alright, Ma, I can make it.
Advertising signs that con you Into thinking you're the one That can do what's never been done That can win what's never been won Meantime life outside goes on All around you.
You lose yourself, you reappear You suddenly find you got nothing to fear Alone you stand with nobody near When a trembling distant voice, unclear Startles your sleeping ears to hear That somebody thinks They really found you.
A question in your nerves is lit Yet you know there is no answer fit to satisfy Insure you not to quit To keep it in your mind and not fergit That it is not he or she or them or it That you belong to.
Although the masters make the rules For the wise men and the fools I got nothing, Ma, to live up to.
For them that must obey authority That they do not respect in any degree Who despise their jobs, their destinies Speak jealously of them that are free Cultivate their flowers to be Nothing more than something They invest in.
While some on principles baptized To strict party platform ties Social clubs in drag disguise Outsiders they can freely criticize Tell nothing except who to idolize And then say God bless him.
While one who sings with his tongue on fire Gargles in the rat race choir Bent out of shape from society's pliers Cares not to come up any higher But rather get you down in the hole That he's in.
But I mean no harm nor put fault On anyone that lives in a vault But it's alright, Ma, if I can't please him.
Old lady judges watch people in pairs Limited in sex, they dare To push fake morals, insult and stare While money doesn't talk, it swears Obscenity, who really cares Propaganda, all is phony.
While them that defend what they cannot see With a killer's pride, security It blows the minds most bitterly For them that think death's honesty Won't fall upon them naturally Life sometimes Must get lonely.
My eyes collide head-on with stuffed graveyards False gods, I scuff At pettiness which plays so rough Walk upside-down inside handcuffs Kick my legs to crash it off Say okay, I have had enough What else can you show me?
And if my thought-dreams could be seen They'd probably put my head in a guillotine But it's alright, Ma, it's life, and life only.

Lovers Never Say Goodbye...The Flamingos Please wait for me, for I shall return My love for you, will forever burn Though we must part, there's no reason to cry Just say so long, because lovers never say goodbye I love you, my darling More than life itself I wouldn't try to hurt you For I'd only be hurting myself Just kiss me dear, and hold me tight For, you know, this is not our last night Though we must part, there's no reason to cry Just say so long, because lovers never say goodbye Never say goodbye Goodbye, goodbye

Much Like Falling By Flyleaf
When I said good morning, I was lying. I was truly thinking of, How I might quit waking up.
He pointed out how selfish, It would be to kill myself: So I keep waking up.
It feels so much like falling, Dying while I wait to die. The fear of something or nothing: Lonely empty lie.
I don't want to be here, liar. I don't want to be selfish anymore. I want so much to change: Learning your love every day. There's still so much to know.
You grip my wrists: I let go.
It feels so much like falling, Separated from the fear. Aware of a destination, far away from here.
It feels so much like falling, Separated from the fear. Aware of a destination, far away from here. Far away from here.
“Women are supposed to be very calm generally: but women feel just as men feel ... they suffer from too rigid a restraint, too absolute a stagnation, precisely as men would suffer ... It is thoughtless to condemn them, or laugh at them, if they seek to do more or learn more than custom has pronounced necessary for their sex.” – Charlotte Brontë (English novelist; 1816-1855)

The naughty lady of Shady Lane has hit the town like a bomb The back fence gossip ain't been this good since Mabel ran off with Tom Our town was peaceful and quiet before she came on the scene The lady has started a riot, disturbin' the suburban routine
The naughty lady of Shady Lane has the town in a whirl. The naughty lady of Shady Lane. Me, oh my, oh what a girl!
You should see how she carries on with her admirants galore She must be giving them quite a thrill, the way they flock to her door. She throws those "come hither" glances at every Tom, Dick and Joe When offered some liquid refreshment, the lady never, never says, "No."
The naughty lady of Shady Lane has the town in a whirl. The naughty lady of Shady Lane. Me, oh my, oh what a girl!
The things they're trying to pin on her won't hold much water, I'm sure. Beneath the powder and fancy lace, there beats a heart sweet and pure. She just needs someone to change her and she'll be nice as can be. If you're in the neighborhood, stranger, you're welcome to drop in and see
The naughty lady of Shady Lane, so delightful to hold The naughty lady of Shady Lane. So delectable, quite respectable. And she's only nine days old

See it could be that he wrote the writin' all wrong. Here I'd be just a readin' wrong writin', don't ya see? You probably been doin' it your whole life, just a readin' wrong writin' and not even knowin‘ it." Festus

By the Bangles.....
Close your eyes, give me your hand, darling Do you feel my heart beating Do you understand Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming Is this burning, an eternal flame
I believe, its meant to be, darling As I watched you while you're sleeping You belong to me Do you feel the same Am I only dreaming Is this burning, an eternal flame
Say my name, sun shines through the rain My life, so lonely Than you came and ease the pain I don't want to loose this feeling.....
...Well, not sure if I get the lyrics right, but anyhow I really like the lyrics...really touches me.

"Dirt" by Alice In Chains. Dark, suggestive and prophetic when it comes to its author - AIC vocalist Layne Staley.
I have never felt such frustration Or lack of self control I want you to kill me And dig me under, I wanna live no more
One who doesnt care is one who shouldnt be I've tried to hide myself from what is wrong for me For me
I want to taste dirty, stinging pistol In my mouth, on my tongue I want you to scrape me from the walls And go crazy like youve made me
You, you are so special You have the talent to Make me feel like dirt And you, you use your Talent to dig me under And cover me with dirt

A new favorite of mine:
"Timing's everything, and this time there's plenty. I am balancing - careful and steady- reveling in energy that everyone's emitting..." ---from "Make It Mine" by Jason Mraz (We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.)

When I Win The Lottery / Camper Van Beethoven
Well I lost an eye in Mexico, lost two teeth where I don't know People see me comin' and they move to the other side of the road. I robbed a liquor store or two, made myself at home a few times Borrowed myself a car when I needed it. I got me a shack at the bottom of the road Fixin' cars and givin' tows, spend all my money on the lottery.
When I win the lottery gonna buy all the girls on my block A color TV and a bottle of French perfume. When I win the lottery gonna donate half my money to the city So they have to name a street or a school or a park after me When I win the lottery.
Never run a flag up a pole like Mr. Red, White, and Blue down the road But I never called myself a hero for killing unknown communists. Now I can walk into any old bar find a fight without looking too hard But I never killed someone I don't know just 'cause someone told me to.
And when I win the lottery gonna buy the house Next to Mr. Red, White, and Blue. And when I win the lottery gonna buy Post 306 American Legion Paint it red with five gold stars. When I win the lottery.
When the end comes to this old world the rocks will cry and the rest will curl up And God won't take the time to sort your ass from mine. 'Cause we zig and zag between good and bad Stumble and fall on right and wrong 'Cause the tumbling dice and the luck of the draw just leads us on.
And when I win the lottery, gonna buy all the girls on my block Silver-plated six shooters and a quart of the finest highland Scotch. 'Cause when I win the lottery, the rocks will shake their heads and say that God is good but surely works in mysterious ways. When I win the lottery.
p.s. love the juxtaposition of The Bangles with Alice In Chains, this Forum truly "travels the breadth of extremities"

Doctors played your dosage like a card trick. Scrabbled down the hallways yelling Yahtzee! I brought books on Hopper and the Arctic, something called the politics of lonely. A toothbrush and a quick-pic with the plus. You tried not to roll your sunken eyes. And said "Hey, can you help me I can't reach it." And pointed at the camera in the ceiling. I climbed up blocked it so they couldn't see, and turned to find you out of bed and kneeling. Before the nurses came took you away, I stood there on a chair and watched you pray.

Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing Where have all the flowers gone? Long time ago Where have all the flowers gone? Gone to young girls every one When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn?

Circle Game Joni Mitchell Yesterday a child came out to wonder Caught a dragonfly inside a jar Fearful when the sky was full of thunder And tearful at the falling of a star Then the child moved ten times round the seasons Skated over ten clear frozen streams Words like, when youre older, must appease him And promises of someday make his dreams And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and dawn Were captive on the carousel of time We cant return we con only look behind From where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game. Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town And they tell him, Take your time, it wont be long now Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and dawn Were captive on the carousel of time We cant return we can only look behind From where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty Though his dreams have lost some grandeur Coming true Therell be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty Before the last revolving year is through. And the seasons they go round and round And the painted ponies go up and down Were captive on the carousel of time We cant return, we can only look behind From where we came And go round and round and round In the circle game http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5HXT0bn7QY&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo%2Egoogle%2Ecom%2Fvideosearch%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3Dcircle%2520game%26um%3D1%26ie%3DUTF%2D8%26sa%3DN%26tab%3Dwv&feature=player_embedded "Supposin' I was to go to work and learn how to... to read writin'. Lets not forget the classic Bob Dylan
They'll stone you when you're trying to be so good They'll stone you just like they said they would They'll stone you when you're trying to go home They'll stone you when you're there all alone But I would not feel so all alone Everybody must get stoned
They'll stone you when you're walking on the street They'll stone you when you're trying to keep your seat They'll stone you when your walking on the floor They'll stone you when your walking to the door But I would not feel so all alone Everybody must get stoned
They'll stone you when you're at the breakfast table They'll stone you when you are young and able They'll stone you when you're trying to make a buck They'll stone you and then they'll say good luck But I would not feel so all alone Everybody must get stoned
Well They'll stone you and say that it's the end They'll stone you and then they'll come back again They'll stone you when you're riding in your car They'll stone you when you're playing you guitar Yes But I would not feel so all alone Everybody must get stoned
Well They'll stone you when you are all alone They'll stone you when you are walking home They'll stone you and then say they're all brave They'll stone you when you're sent down in your grave But I would not feel so all alone Everybody must get stoned
