The Devil's Dictionary is available free online here. It's surprising how many of Bierce's "redefinitions" are still amusing and at least somewhat relevant after more than 100 years.

He is still relevant and funny. This quote reminded me of a saying I heard as a child and have no idea who created it, but maybe someone else does. "Everyone is crazy except for me and thee, and I'm not too certain about thee."

Pray More than 100 years....There we go again; Please Sire Angus, what is the reason that Ambrose is Still amusing, and why after just 100 years? The Reality of the Human Condition is lost since oooonly 100 years...say's Sire Angus. Or you want to show off..You are now way beyond..because you want to sound much more advanced; You found the Keys of the Amusement-Parc ?

I do not find anything funny about his name. Ambrose is a very old and respectable name (in my point of view) and I have someone with that name in my family.

Humor varies from individual to individual so I guess it is difficult to explain why I find his work to be humorous and still relevant.

His definitions still resonate with me. My favorite is:

“Egotist: A person…more interested in himself than in me.”

I believe most would see the humor in that definition.

I don’t know what I have said that offends you so much.

Raia - Bierce's humour is quite sophisticated and hard to ' get ' if your grasp of English is not at a high level. I have trouble with sophisticated humour in French ( a language I speak and read but not fluently ) and I think you're having the same problem with Bierce. Nothing to get agitated about, just part of the learning process. Satire is not for everyone either, specially if it relies on social and linguistic nuances with which one is not very familiar. Keep reading, my friend, it's the best path !

Speak to the hand Ambrose is today a very funny name, it's like 'Seraphin'... Victorian era. Names come like fashion. But beside's. Why is he Still 'relevant'? I ask you and Sire Angus too, and why is he funny? (Egotist: A person..more interested in himself than me): is a definition of the Ego. It is not that Ambrose meant: I Ambrose i want everybody to be interested in Me only! Then..Ambrose would have been an Egotist (Egocentric - Narcisisme.

Raia, trying to explain why something is funny is like raking water : time-consuming and futile ( I was going to say like teaching a pig to sing but after the last pig-based discussion here I allowed my discretion to carry my valour !).

If you don't find AB funny just walk away and read something you do find funny. I don't think anyone can laugh for another ; it just doesn't work that way.

_ I thank your altruistic generosity toward someone(that is me)! But, i am afraid not to be a bit in need of this fogy! Absolutely Absurd-(two French words)- up there, sounding as a pedagogical discource wich means nothing at all, 'Life is a stage ETC... 'Nothing to do with me, cant even begin to understand what your Exellency is talking about!! Aand excuse-me i had my cocktail metoo, the most Funny part is that your Ex. Is Funny, quote= Rigth-On Atiya Ha Ha//= I loove cocktails! I can have cocktails aaall day..My favorite is Mooonnshomething!= So is on to say before such exuberance such happyness? 'GOOD FOR YOU'. Your-time-was-not-consuming-and-(futile-is-a-French-word) i swear i was laughing! Hope it was no futility cause we are facing grave matters, wich have required allowing your discretion to carry-on with your Valour! (Another French word)..and while Exellencis mentioning their Valeur..'ha hah' discretion please Raia, they need to add their Honneur. Watch this: Valeur et Honneur vont de Paire= Valour and Honour go by Peers. (It does not work). I was asking a (Legitime(Fr)question and logic too to Atiya; The difference in timing arround the Word can it influence the comunication? Depending on local time a drink or 2 or 3 4 5, but i could see her before my eyes so condecendently say; Raia Dal. It is not important what time it is, people can communicate any time of the day! The poete calmly talking to a stupid clerck. Then hapiness spug out. I do repete if You and Cool mama find Ambrose funny, but still relevant,(My God it sound so pedantic and arrogant) please come forward then for the explaining. Carry-on the valour! I do not apreciate your piggy example.
