JJ. Your autumn picture is very beautiful. So is the one of Lapland on Nov. 9th.

To Hope: Your 'city' picture with the leaves all fallen down on cars and street is nice too.

Muskoka, Ontario, Canada, in the autumn. (Damn deer used to eat my garden!)

Yes, JJ. "Isn't it funny how time slips away?"(As the song goes) If this is where you live, it is beautiful!

This year's strange - a lot of the trees are still green, my roses have not even flowered yet.

Most of the Rowan trees are fruiting though.
Berries vary from pale yellow/orange to a maroon or 'port-wine' colour. My favourite tree besides the Hawthorn.

Sorry - this rant is a tad off topic.

DragOn, I'm shocked to read that Hawthorn is your favourite tree! Brick wall They're invasive weeds - with sharp bits. Not talking Maybe you'd best visit Australia; we can show you see some real trees. Dancing

Bugger me! (as they say in France) did I say something wrong?

Quote:
Of all the trees that grow so fair,
Old Engerland to adorn,
Greater are none beneath the Sun,
Than Oak and Ash and Thorn.
Sing Oak and Ash and Thorn, good Sirs
(All of a Midsummer's morn)!
Surely we sing of no little thing,
In Oak and Ash and Thorn!

Oak of the Clay lived many a day,
Or ever Aeneas began;
Ash of the Loam was a lady at home,
When Brut was an outlaw man;
Thorn of the Down saw New Troy Town
(From which was London born);
Witness hereby the ancientry
Of Oak and Ash and Thorn!
Kipling

Not spectacular colours, but definitely Autumn - the haws are ripe.

EDIT I just checked with a 'countryman' friend (worked a a forester for years and on the waterways the rest of his life).

He doesn't have the same opinion of hawthorn that you do (Ray) - but he says the same things (except the 'sharp bits') about the sycamore (false plane) tree. "It's a weed - burn, destroy!"

One man's weed is another man's decorative timber.

Not quite autumn yet, but we're working on it. Taken yesterday on a cycling trip in the area.

"Indian Summer"

Along the line of smoky hills
The crimson forest stands,
And all the day the blue-jay calls
Throughout the autumn lands.

Now by the brook the maple leans,
With all his glory spread;
And all the sumachs on the hills
Have turned their green to red.

Now, by great marshes wrapt in mist,
Or past some river's mouth,
Throughout the long still autumn day
Wild birds are flying south.

A favorite poem of 'Ontario-ites.'

Loons gathering ready to fly south - where they lose their distinctive coloring. Not sure if they keep their distinctive call or not while down south.

Maple is one of the trees with the most varied Autumn colours (yes, we have them here too, Hope)

Do you know what tree has the purple leaves in your picture, JJ?
Great pictures!

The purple-leaved tree in MY picture is Japanese Maple. If you meant the latest picture, I don't know.
The small park in my photo is called Mustankivenpuisto, Black Stone Park. Black stone, Gabro, was once quarried from that area. The stones seen in front are black stones, still popular as tombstones.

These two are today, just before dawn, on my way home from work.
The red sky reflecting in the frost on the grass.

This one is last year, a bit earlier in the year, but a great sky again:
