In Finnish we have a specific word for autumn leaf colours, ruska. Syksy (autumn) can also be called ruska-aika (ruska time) here. After an exceptionally warm and sunny summer ruska started couple of weeks earlier than normally this year and is at its best right now.

I'll try to catch some photos from my surroundings and post them here later. Meanwhile, let's post some beautiful pics from what's available:

Beautiful! Around what time of the evening did you shoot this, JJ?

P.S. I am starting to learn Finnish through your posts. Dancing I think you use one Finnish word in at least 1/8 of your posts. Thanks for teaching me Finnish free of cost. Whistle

Not my shot! Don't know the phorographer, but the place looks familiar. A summer cottage's sauna by the Lake Päijänne in Kuhmoinen, Central Finland. Early afternoon I suppose from the angle of the light.

This is from Padasjoki, near the previous place. Photographer is Urpo Haapalainen.

Wonderful idea, JJ. Ruska is also rutting season. May we post on that topic? j/k Angel

I've always liked the effect of the late afternoon long light in this simple shot of a field break just down the road from our house.

Thanks so much JJ. I wish I could be somewhere where I could enjoy seeing autumn colours like these and go for a walk in the woods. It's not like that here in Greece; at least not where I am. And there isn't really much of an autumn here like in Canada. Lucky you!

Hey, That last one from AppleBlossom looks like Manito Park in Spokane. I know there are plenty of parks of that style but still, maybe. (No, that's not what most of the area looks like)

And it reminded me of a park near The Silver Pavilion in Kyoto. Wherever it is - it is beautiful!

I like those subtle shades of green, JJ. Wonderful view with the rooftops in the second pic, as well. It's a pleasure to see your work in ruska.
Am I correct in assuming the berries shown in the first pic aren't edible, otherwise the birds and squirrels would have had at 'em?

I'm not a fan of HDR multi-exposure and post-processing that extends the dynamic range beyond what our eyes and brains normally see in a landscape
or other natural settings. As Michael Reichmann said: 'Why resort to HDR technique when a good exposure will do nicely, thank you?' But every digital
camera's image sensor has limitations for capturing high and low end contrasts, and neutral density filters are an effective tool for adapting to light
conditions in the field. For the digital photogs here, this link within Reichmann's Luminous Landscape site provides a quick tutorial on using graduated
neutral density filters from Irish pro photog, Peter Cox. natural filters (Typo is deliberate, Angel )

Also just down the road from our house -- no filter used
