Mamoncillo

Found in the American tropics from Mexico to northern South America and the Caribbean, the mamoncillo is a tree that bears a small, edible fruit with green, leathery skin and a sweet, juicy, translucent pulp. Also known as quenepas, Spanish limes, limoncillos, and ackees, among other names, the fruits are traditionally eaten by cracking the thin layer of skin with the teeth and putting the whole pulp in the mouth. i remember people calling them limoncillos in DR. what about you guys? What name do you call them?

They say that people can learn the art of kissing by eating mamoncillos. If this is true, I've met a few women in my life who probably could have benefited from a steady diet of this fruit. Silenced

I have a relative who once smuggled these into the US from South America (shhh, don't tell customs) and they were the most delicious thing I'd ever tasted. I can only describe them as sour/tart lychees. What I wouldn't do to get my hands on some of these! Anyone know of any importers?

That reminded me of a fruit that I'm not able to find here either...
Granadillas, they are gross looking inside, but taste soo good!

That really does look gross inside. I've never eaten one, but I think they might be called "passion fruit" in the states.

reminds me of the grenadine, same shape, more yellowish inside found in the tropics...so delicious...
