afterimage

(noun) A visual image that persists after the visual stimulus causing it has ceased to act. Also called photogene.

Synonyms: aftersensation

Usage: She looked away from the brightness of the car's headlights, but the glowing afterimage still floated before her eyes for several seconds.

I like optical illusions using this.

I didn't know afterimages was one word.

Excellent illusion! It's almost censorship as your original ring of red dots is replaced by the one rotating green. Something similar must have been useful at some point- perhaps tracking camouflaged animals or something.

I may have given you this before but it's a very good site on illusions.

One of the most common afterimages is the bright glow that seems to float before one's eyes after looking into a light source for a few seconds.
