Hello respected teachers,

(Related topic: http://forum.thefreedictionary.com/postst175654_Graph-description-6.aspx)

Is the following correct/natural?

North America had 5% of its total land degraded by the three above-mentioned causes.

Does it not seem that North America made those causes degrade its lands?

cf.,
I had my car washed. ~ I got the people (in car wash) to wash my car.

I am looking forward to your answers.

No – the meaning is clear from the context. Compare:

I had my car washed.
I had my car stolen.

The first "had" refers to something I did; the second refers to something that happened to me.
