Hello respected teachers,

I like living in a small town withing driving distance of a city.

What does driving distance mean? Is it an idiom?

It means living in a town that is close enough that driving to the city is not a problem. It's a comfortable driving distance. That distance is determined by the speaker and depends on his priorities.
