Raul (on telephone): May I speak with the lady of the house?

Mona: Speaking.

Raul: Are you a full-time homemaker?

Mona: Yes, I am. I do not have an outside job. I spend my whole day devoted to my family. I make sure that my husband has a delicious meal when he comes home from a hard day's work; I am here when my children return from school so that I can make sure that they engage in constructive activities; and I maintain a clean and orderly home.

Raul: My organization wants to reward such exemplary wives and mothers like you. We will be sending you a check for $1,000.

Mona: Thank you.

Raul: Our country thanks you!

the lady of the house
A woman who looks after and runs the house; the matriarch of a family or household. I'm afraid you'll have to ask the lady of the house, as she's the one who makes those sorts of decisions around here.
