The photo above has floated around the internet for a few years now, popular for one of its subjects’ subtle yet profound acts of nonconformity. There is no telling how many men in that crowd were acting out of fear, fully aware that failing to salute the Fuhrer was akin to signing his own death certificate.

Knowing that it was, in fact, Hitler standing before the crowd makes the disobedience all the more admirable, but what may seem like an act of justified transgression was at its core a gesture of love. August Landmesser, the man with his arms crossed, was married to a Jewish woman.

The story of August Landmesser’s anti-gesture begins, ironically enough, with the Nazi Party. In 1930, Germany’s economy was in shambles, and the unstable nature of the Reichstag eventually led to its demise and ultimately the rise of the opportunistic leadership of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

Believing that having the right connections would help land him a job in the pulseless economy, Landmesser became a card-carrying Nazi. Little did he know that his heart would soon ruin any progress that his superficial political affiliation might have made.

Culled from net.

In every country, there are a few brave souls, like Herr Landmesser.

Most of us are, of course, cowards. Understandably so. We just want to live our lives and keep our heads down.

Here in the United States, most of us go along with politically correct attitudes or keep our mouths shut.

For example, in recent years, the media and all the powers that be have told us that certain recent developments have been absolutely wonderful.

If one doesn't think that certain developments have been so wonderful, it would take an especially brave soul "to fold his arms."

TheParsar sir, I completely agree but, I would like to change the word 'cowards' with 'powerless'.

But revolutions do take place. Recent examples of Col Gaddafi, Sadam Hussain are the testimony. History is replete.

In India too, the Modi government has crushed the middle and lower middle class with it's very condemnable economic policies. Population is helpless.

In fact, what I feel, is that Democratic system of election is demoncratic. There are many loopholes.

And sir, you know that the Caste-based ( not economical basis) reservation system is playing havoc with the intelligentsia. The politicians are extracting full advantage of this system.
A candidate of lower caste with 10% or lesser marks gets admission to prestigious medical or engineering institutions
while an intelligent guy with 90% or more marks is sidelined, courtesy reservation policy.

Quite a good number of eligible students committed suicide during Prime Minister V. P Singh's regime.

Even in promotion matters the reserved candidate is given preferred promotion as a result the lower and inexperienced in hierarchy becomes boss of the experienced and eligible.

The situation has not changed.
