Where does this nickname come from? Or rather what does it suggest? My text is here:

It could be just an endearment (-pants is just a babyish addition to Jakey)

But it could be disparaging.

A scaredeypants ( British - scaredeycat) is a child who is frightened of things, or of doing things. That is an insulting name.

But it could just be mildly making fun of him, a term of endearment. I mean, 'pants' is a mildly funny word to a child.
If there is any context about him being afraid of stuff, it would be that reference. But it seems more innocent than that. I think it is just a childish endearment.

Ah, I see it is written by Isla Fisher. She is Australian (born in Scotland) - so these are British pants (unless she is writing for the American market). Underpants. They are a silly, naughty word for kids. It is just a nonsense nickname, I think.

Real name - probably Jacob
Common name -Jake
Babyish name - Jakey
Nickname from other kids - Jakeypants Dancing

Thar -

OMG - where did you get the picture of my youngest son from! He decided at the age of 2 that pants made the best headgear and wore them every time he left the house.

Amazing how having children completely inures one to embarrassment!

To be clear about it, "scaredycat" is not particularly British. It's universally known and used by Americans. (Spelling and/or hyphenation may vary.)
