Murano Glass

Murano glass has been a famous product of the Venetian island of Murano for centuries and is still made today using the ancient techniques. The island's reputation as a glassmaking center was born when the Venetian Republic, fearful of fires that could destroy the city's mostly wood buildings, ordered glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291. On Murano: Simone Cenedese's 'Comet Glass Star'



A glass sculpture on display on the Campo San Stefano near the Murano clock tower and the San Pietro Martire Church.

The work, titled "Comet Glass Star," was created by master glassmaker Simone Cenedese, who has a workshop and gallery on the island. Below are several photos of the scupture, which was assembled from 500 blown glass elements in six colors and a variety of sizes
