What is a languid afternoon?

Does it means it is not shiny and there is hardly any breeze?

Thanks.

It is the sort of afternoon which makes you feel just like lying on the beach (or in the garden or . . . ) and doing nothing.

lan·guid

I'd add that it's not the same as a quiet, relaxed or lazy afternoon.

In the meaning above, what makes it a separate word is "...conducive to indolence..."

That means that the circumstances are such that one can indulge oneself.

Some very wealthy people have a languid air - they take as much time as they want to walk down the street while people are held up behind them. This indolent slowness also gives people a chance to do things for them like opening doors, lighting their cigarette (Well, in old movies, anyway!), carrying their stuff etc.

ps Have you ever been to a spa - or for a full massage? Well, the feeling you have when it's finished, BEFORE you have to race back to school or work? THAT is 'languid'.
