Boeing has begun construction on its first overseas factory, which will consist of both a completion and a delivery center in the port city of Zhoushan, 287 km southeast of Shanghai. Chinese aviation manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd.(COMAC) will jointly run the completion center with Boeing.

To accommodate aircraft manufacturing, the city's Putuoshan Airport is undergoing a 750 million yuan (108 million U.S. dollars) expansion to become an international airport. The city is also developing an industrial manufacturing chain to support not only Boeing, but other manufacturers and plans to be able to deliver and modify 600 aircraft per year by 2025.

Zhoushan is an archipelago and an island city with shipbuilding, tourism and fishing to go alongside the aircraft manufacturing.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. ― Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
