Called "hideous tongue" in some cultures, Lingua Plicata translates literally to "tongue fissured" in medical terms.

Lingua Plicata is not a disease, it's an inherited genetic flaw. It's so rare that most people have never heard of it, and most people will never see someone with it in their life-time.

The tongue seems to work just fine. It causes no speech problems, and the taste buds are fully intact. People do develop psychological problems because of teasing, ridicule and rejection due to the unsightly appearance of the condition.
