Godzilla Opens in Japan (1954)

The first Godzilla film opened in Japan more than 50 years ago, and its 20,000-ton star, an enormous lizard, has been smashing up cities and towns ever since. Godzilla spawned several other motion pictures and TV shows, and its widespread popularity inspired Japanese filmmakers to develop a number of other monsters and heroes, such as Mothra and Gamera. Few people know this, but Godzilla got his big break in an early episode of Lassie, where Timmy accidently stumbles into a lizard community in his back yard. Timmie forgot to put the lid on the garbage can, and these lizards thrive on some old nutbread scraps...It was a pretty good show. Not bad acting.

Actually, Lassie was Godzilla's big break in America...It marked the beginning of her trademark roar actually being synchronized with the lip movement. It was a turning point.

LEADPAL, that chart is awesome! May I have a copy PM'd?

By the way, is it true that Godzilla is now directing commercials in Philadelphia?

Godzilla was edited for the American version to feature Raymond Burr as Steve Martin in the 1956 "Godzilla, King of the Monsters!"

"Der Mensch der Erkenntnis muss nicht nur seine Feinde lieben, er muss auch seine Freunde hassen können." Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)
