As a librarian, I obviously believe in the power of imagination and curiosity fueled by books and once found, never lost. When I see young children and teens come into the library daily still searching for their favorite books or even splayed on the floor or in a chair engrossed and reading, I'm hopeful. To those who contend libraries are archaic or even obsolete, come stand in my shoes for just one hour.

At first glance I saw the only scope of the boy standing on a pile of books, I thought this picture means to convey
books are used in the wrong way. I was taught not to step over any books, put them down on the floor or inproper place, respect books as your teacher. I don't know how about the other's believe and opinion. So I thought that boy's so rude. But after I scolled up to see the whole picture, I found the true meaning of this picture. I do agree.^^
I like the way that those words on the wall are such a contrast with ... I don't know how to write in English -sorry.

The words on the wall, the trash and the grim environment on the boy's side of the wall are such a contrast to the dreams, adventures and ideas he finds in the books.
How's that?

The picture reminded me of some books I read years years ago, like
Peter Pan, Treasure Island, Narnia series, Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver's Travels, Münchausen stories...
Time pick up some classics from the shelf, I guess ;-)

When I worked in real estate I was horrified by the number of homes I was in where the only apparent function of books was to make sure the coffee table didn't float away. ( Prize for most boring CT book ever ? " A Pictorial Journey Through Saskatchewan " Look honey, wheat !)
Growing up, I was shocked that nobody else seemed to use books instead of wallpaper !
Books paint pictures on the walls of minds that might otherwise remain blank.

I like both pictures... I wold really like to get a hold of that first picture... Be great for schools... even thought there are swears... Books could save a childs life if brought up in the wrong area amongst gangs and poverty... books are a cheap vacation...

If you want a copy of the picture you can get it in A4 size by a right click over the picture. The menu will have 'Print picture..',
Left click on there and if you have a printer it will print off for you.
I am on Windows 7, but I am sure XP,etc. had the same provision.
If you don't want the 'F' word then you can print the picture as is,paint out the word with a texta, and 'copy' it off on the printer.
I am an avid reader, always have been, and I am dismayed when I see school and public libraries getting smaller and smaller. Even more so when I see shelves of books removed to gain space to accommodate computers. Computers do not take the place of books, and, do nothing to develop researching skills, as it is so easy to 'google' for the answer/solution.
We are seeing a new generation that have no actual problem solving techniques, and who never get to use their imagination as you do when reading books.

Good point, leon. My father read to me and I have always made sure to read to my son, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and any other child that has ever entered my home. I remember last year reading Winnie-ther-Pooh to my son and granddaughter ( who were 9 and 10 at the time ) over their protests that it was a ' kids ' book. After an hour I had to stop...
Probably preaching to the choir here, but please read to your children. Hell, read to other people's children ! It's a life gift.
