This video really puts you to think of time and us. The clip is nearly an hour long but worth of watching and listening, every second of it. (and you can always click pause if you need a break ;-) The funny side in this project is that a computer scientist who has been involved in creating faster and faster processors for decades now builds a monument which is actually the world's slowest computer! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nphxoUxSvgY

Sad really, sterile is another word.
Is it that nostalgia and beauty has no place in our modern society?
All the fun and mystique has gone from photography for me, and pilots most probably say the same about their aeroplanes.
Maybe there is a little man sitting some where with his abbacus yearning for the days pre-calculators.

For those who are too busy: The Clock of the Long Now, less than four minutes.

Just watched the 4 minute summary. Sounds like an amazing project on so many levels, from art (for art's sake) to scientific discovery – material resilience is going to be the real issue. I'd be surprised if it's possible over those timescales.
Thanks for the links.
Arguing with a creationist is like playing chess with a pigeon. It'll knock over the pieces, crap on the board, and fly back to it's flock to claim victory.
