I posted this earlier today on Facebook, which if you consider their policies is kind of funny.

Before any of my even geekier friends tell me this is old news, I know that. But I haven't read a privacy policy in a couple years, and don't think I ever read Google's till this morning. I got an email this morning about the "new and improved" Google privacy policy. What really amazes me is how easily we slipped into such a state of non-privacy. Read the 'What we collect section" takes a few minutes only.
Google's New Privacy Policy

This document is very easy to read, which in its self says quite a bit, but just imagine how extensive of a profile could be generated on you with just a years worth of this data.

ETA, George Orwell is the author of a book, "!984" about a dystopian future where the government monitors everything about your life through the agency of monitoring technology known as "Big Brother." If you're curious see this wikipedia page.

Thanks for this, I had clicked on it yesterday before hardly registering its presence, let alone reading and agreeing to it. Orwellian indeed. And do we really trust these faceless corporations like Google anyway - would NOT clicking our agreement really make any difference? I suspect its just a PR front.

Is the information collected if we don't sign in, or do they collect it for the computer that's used?
I don't like this either.

Could "Google" be an acronym for something more sinister? I'm not good at making up acronyms, nor at figuring existing ones. Hopefully someone here has a knack for this?
I weary of these agreements we are forced to sign or forfeit our use of the web.

That's why I don't post on You-tube videos. I balked at signing their "agreement".

I started using DuckDuckGo a while ago and I find it satisfying.

That's why I won't use Google. Instead, I use scroogle.org or any other search engine. Scroogle is my favorite, while it still is available.

I use firefox mainly because of adblocker, Disconnect etc. but for some reason I never thought about google... I confess I didn't even read the new terms. These thing become such a part of your life you take things for granted.

I'm amazed at how different my search results are via DuckDuckGo.

With the exception of the news hitting tech blogs and websites, there hasn't been much public outrage over Google's privacy policy change. But Markey* says that's because the public lacks a full understanding of the policy.
