IBM, the computer guys of the previous century think they have a preview of what's going to happen between 2012 and 2017. As always with such statements in press release at best a part of it may be true. Wishful thinking I guess.

I will be five years older. Damn

I am carrying my heart~I am carrying my rhythm~I am carrying my prayers~But you can't kill my spirit~It's soaring and strong (Paula Cole's Me Lyrics)***We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We ARE spirtual beings having a human experience.(T.deChardin)***There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle. Christine, I fear if all this comes true I'll age TEN years in the same time. ;)

Thanks for sharing, club.

The International Behemoth Megaconglomerate known as IBM made their name with some fantastic innovations in the mid twentieth century due to a few brilliant minds in their workforce. Since then they mostly write contracts for service support and datacenter hosting agreements and they purchase or otherwise acquire other company's or individual's technology or software in a form of proprietary assimilation similar to The Borg. They went so far as to invent their own character set as a form of mind control. IBM may know what you have in mind before you do too. Otherwise, they pretty much ride upon or cling to the coattails of their glory days in an almost reflexive and recursive manner, and they still make and sell variants of the powerful workhorse AS400. They have done some interesting work in artificial intelligence. IBM certainly isn't the innovative company they once were some thirty to fifty or more years ago. If you take a deep look at IBM these days one may find they have wide, far reaching and varied interests in many aspects of science and technology. It will be interesting to see where Ginni Rometty takes them, hopefully she carries and leads them to new heights where no one has gone before and skyrockets the company into orbit and beyond, again, and again, and again, further, faster, more, more, more, surpassing astronomical boundaries and exponential proportion, pushing the limits of fulfillment and potential...besides, she looks cute in Blue.

Incidentally, IBM has some of the most progressive employee benefits packages in the corporate world compared to most other companies; just make certain you put only eight hours per day on your timesheet regardless of the sixteen or more hours spent slaving away without gratuity and recompense.

Bit of a meaningless video, but technospheral divination is always a joy so this is what I think of their 5 insipid points:

1) Isn't going to save the globe, is only going to make you tap run slower.
2) The technology has been there some time (in some form anyway), the reason we don't use it seems to me to be beyond the purview of IBM. Even if the only reason were that the technology wasn't yet advanced enough people won't like it.
3) Not sure how quick doctors would be to use something like that. Otherwise very limited and might therefore become limitedly useful. However it's probably somewhat more practical to do eye-tracking.
4) Not much signal in a lot of places in the world, and data plans will still be too expensive for most people. Plus for TV and complicated software we like big screens. Otherwise completely true of course.
5) It's called Facebook.

The opposite of hatred is love; the opposite of tyranny is love; the opposite of censorship is love; the opposite of evil is love; the opposite of politics is love; the opposite of war is love; the opposite of god is love.–– Salman Rushdie
Broadly speaking, it is held that getting money is good and spending money is bad. Seeing that they are two sides of one transaction, this is absurd; one might as well maintain that keys are good, but keyholes are bad. Whatever merit there may be in the production of goods must be entirely derivative from the advantage to be obtained by consuming them. –Bertrand Russell

IM and Christine: getting older is a good thing! The trouble is when you stop aging!

And:

Every day above ground is a good day. Happy 5 and 10 to you both!
