Wikipedia editors changed entire site to a message in several languages one of them English:

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Comunicato_4_ottobre_2011/en

This is because a law is discussed that the owner of the site is forced to change/delete content within 48 hours if someone asks the 'owners' to do so even without legal proof. Impossible if you know how it works. Imagine if this strange law would be applicable here on TFD. I don't think Farlex would agree.

There will be a discussion this morning on both the law and an amendment they managed to draft in less than 24h which would extempt Wikipedia and similar blogs.
Kind of sad that in this times of crisis our politicians keep bickering like two years old instead of discussing important measures to help the economy, but in two days they manage to draft a bipartisan amendment to save wikipedia...

While important for free informations and all, I think Italy's got bigger fish to fry... Anyway, stay tuned for the next episode of the slightly ridiculous sit-com which is the italian Parliament.

PS:
To clarify this law, the main body is about telephone tapping and the way those informations can and should be published in both newspapers and through the web (or that is what I understood from the news).

Good news is Italian Wikipedia is doing business as usual with a site notice as far as I understand the law and the last minute amendments is not completely definite, To be continued I guess...
