Hello
I am new to this forum.
My dad and his family all spoke Norwegian, but he passed away before I ever really learned any. I just know a prayer we said at family dinners (which were rare).

Thank you
Patti

I know lutefisk, lefse, and "Oh, for cute!"

Welcome.

Excuse me, but what is "Oh, for cute" meaning?
(I have problems relating that to modern Norwegian, but could possibly be an older expression emigrants brought with them and maintained.)

I think that translated into English it would be: Oh, how cute. 'for' being used in Norwegian as exclamatory.
For et vær! - What weather!
At least that's what I think.
